You have taken the first steps in the adoption process. I am thankful to you for allowing me the opportunity to introduce myself, Terry Volk. as a Certified Open Adoption Practitioner/Facilitator. I am the mother of four children; two by adoption and two whom I gave birth. I have been an adoption facilitator for 12 years and have volunteered in pro life organizations for the last 15 years. Most of my involvement included supporting family values, encouraging families in crisis, educating pregnant women that abortion was NOT their only choice and ministering to families who had suffered with infertility or pregnancy losses. My focus today is to promote adoption information within the Church as a positive choice for one who is faced with an unplanned pregnancy, but not in a position to raise the child. Prior to dedicating and committing myself to adoption work, I was a Vice-President for a major California Bank for 17 years. Upon the birth of our second daughter, it was decided that I would resign from my position with in the Bank and become a full- time stay at home mother. While loving every minute being home with the girls', I really felt a desire to work with women who were facing single parenting and mentoring young moms. I became involved in a national organization and volunteered for 5 years as the financial officer. During this work, my husband and I experienced 3 miscarriages and secondary infertility. We briefly committed ourselves to working with a well-known infertility specialist, but not long after we felt like adoption would be a better option for our family. In 1994 we were chosen by my son's birth mother. I was able to meet with her one time prior to his birth . She invited us into the delivery room and handed us our beautiful son within minutes of his birth. During this time, I had begun to volunteer in a Christian pregnancy crisis center and became a member of a pro life organization. In 1996 we were chosen again by our daughter's birth parents and it was decided that we would be her forever family. In 1998 the idea of A Baby from Heaven Adoptions began and we officially began accepting adoptive families in January of 1999. I am a member of the Academy of California Adoption Professionals (ACAP), a professional organization of adoption facilitators, social workers and adoption attorneys. In 2000, the National Federation certified me as a Certified Open Adoption Practitioner. As a result of our personal challenges, the passion that I had for building my family is now being realized by helping families like you to be successful in your adoption search.
